Event Details
What's going on?
It's the Ontario Progress User's Group's Spring 2010 meeting with something for anyone involved in the software development lifecycle, users of OE Architect, as well as any user of Progress technologies that will be affected by the significant changes that've taken place at the highest levels of Progress Software.
In addition, the Ontario PUG is pleased to announce it's first ever vendor fair! We're making tables available for vendors who want to collaborate with our members to bring the best possible products and services to their customers.
Finally, Strategic Information Technology is having a draw for a free iPad at the end of the meeting!
This meeting is where you need to be on March 25, 2010 at the The Old Mill Inn and Spa, or attend from your desktop via WebEx.
Who should attend?
This meeting will be of interest to:
• Software developers who are looking for better ways to manage their software development lifecycle and want to hear from experts in the field,
• Developers working with Open Edge Architect who are frustrated with how "projects" handle a large number of files in a multi-developer environment,
• Any user of Progress technologies who want to know what the changes at the highest levels of Progress Software means for them.
Meeting Topic Lineup: After scouring the four corners of the globe for speakers with the depth of knowledge and experience that Ontario PUG members demand, the Executive is pleased to announce the following topics and speakers for the Spring 2010 meeting: What's New at Progress! There's been a sea-change at Progress Software with the appointment of five new "C" level executives, a new product strategy, a new sales organization, a new target market, and a new culture. During this session, Dave will discuss the motivation behind these changes, including Progress Software's overall strategy to raise their visibility in the market, grow the company, and how they are executing on that strategy. Who is on the new executive team, what roles will they play in the "New and Improved" Progress Software, and what does this mean for Progress partners in general and the OpenEdge business roadmap in particular? Come to the meeting and find out! Dave will be presenting via WebEx from Progress's headquarters in Bedford MA.
Managing Change - The Better Way All too often the process of managing the software development lifecycle is fraught with problems, takes longer and costs more than it should, and leaves development shops thinking "There must be a better way". This session will teach you "that better way" by discussing how solid software configuration management (SCM) practices and policies result in lower costs, greater developer productivity, better compliance criteria satisfaction, with an overall improvement in your organization's ability to respond to your customer demands. Micheal will be presenting on-site. Team Development: Best Practices and How-to's Distributed team development is a reality in all application development; OpenEdge development is no different. Fortunately, there are many tools for team development that can be utilized with OpenEdge development. This session will demonstrate some of those tools and discuss the best practices in: Cameron will be presenting via WebEx from Bravepoint's Atlanta GA offices. William MacDonald – Architect Manager – Strategic Information Technology Inc.
Loading the entire source tree of a large source code base into OEA Projects in order to edit a file is problematic compared to the straightforward file-editing capability provided by OE Studio. This session will look at how the location and access of files changed between OE Studio and OE Architect and demonstrate how some of OE Studio's flexibility can be recovered when using OE Architect so developers can readily navigate large source code repositories. You will also see a variety of ways source files can be checked out from and checked into a project's central repository, as well as how OEA can be used to both store and manage program files and database schemas in a central repository. All OE Architect Plug-ins will be made available on the OEHive.org site after the presentation. William will be presenting on-site. Meeting Schedule: All times are Eastern Standard Time. Each presentation block includes the presentation, Q&A, and break. For those who are looking for an
